Comparing BOMs
Diffing two assemblies or two revisions of the same one.
Comparison answers "what actually changed?" without reading two lists side by side.
Running one
- Open either assembly and choose Compare.
- Pick what to compare against — another assembly, or an earlier revision of this one.
- Choose the depth: top level only, or the full indented tree.
Reading the result
| Marker | Means |
|---|---|
| Added | Present in the second, absent from the first |
| Removed | Present in the first, absent from the second |
| Qty | Same part, different quantity |
| Rev | Same part, different revision |
When it earns its keep
- Reviewing an ECO before approving it — the diff is the change
- Comparing two product variants to see what genuinely differs
- Investigating why one build behaved differently from another
- Reconciling against a supplier's understanding of the BOM
