A labour study totals the time to build an assembly — assembly, inspection, traceability and testing — and breaks it down by position.
Running one
- Open Labour & Man-Hours and choose New Study.
- Select the top-level assembly.
- The study collects times from assembly instruction steps, inspection points, traceability requirements and test requirements across the whole tree.
- Review the roll-up by position.
Reading it
Total hours, positions contributing, and line items counted. Set hourly rates in settings and it produces an estimated cost as well.
Keeping it honest
It's only as good as the times entered on the steps. Studies show when they were last recalculated — recalculate after changing instructions or the BOM.
What it's for
Quoting, capacity planning and comparing design options. It's an engineering estimate built from the documented process, not a measurement of individuals.
