Importing a BOM
Bringing an existing BOM in from a spreadsheet.
You can import a BOM structure from a spreadsheet in one pass, including multiple levels.
What the file needs
- A part number column
- A quantity column
- A level column if the BOM is multi-level (1, 2, 3 …) — or indentation, which is also understood
- Optionally: description, reference designator, unit of measure
Column order doesn't matter and headings don't need to match ours — you map them during import.
The process
- Open the assembly and choose Import BOM.
- Upload the file and map your columns to the fields.
- Review what will happen. Parts already in the vault are matched by number; parts that don't exist are listed so you can create them or correct a typo.
- Confirm.
Check the unmatched list
The most common import problem is a part number that nearly matches — a trailing space, a dash where there should be none. Read the unmatched list before confirming rather than after.
Still stuck?
Email [email protected] and a person will pick it up. Include the part number and what you were doing — it saves a round trip.
